This book is rather hard for me to rate.It started out so well that I was sure this will end up as one of my favourites.The story,the language,the characters,everything was just so perfect.But somewhere along the way,the characters lost their initial charm.I still loved it,still finished it in one setting ,but at the end,what I felt was that it could have been something more.

The author has done an excellent job in creating a story which is so similar,yet completely different from the 'Arabian Nights'.The focus here is not on the tales,but the budding romance between Shahrzad(Shazi) and Khalid.It is portrayed exceptionally well.Yet,by the middle of it,I felt that there was too much romance and little else.Both Shazi and Khalid seemed to have forgotten everything else but each other.Even though completely justified,the transformation of Shazi from a scheming and vindictive girl to a lovesick one was a little hard for me to stomach.But who can object?Amor vincit omnia!

The characterisation of Khalid,the cursed hero is exemplary.His inner struggles and growth is real and palpable to the reader.

The Wrath and the Dawn is a beautiful,seductive romance with an ending that left me gasping and yearning for more.My only complaint is that it didn't deliver as much as it promised.

 You know something is not right when you finish a book and realize that the most interesting character in it is a cat.Especially when you don't even really like cats.

This book is a mess of mixed feelings for me.It is the story of a girl who ventures into faery land to rescue her little brother,where she finds out that (gasp) she is a faery princess.Along the way,she falls headlong into adventures and meets many dangerous magical creatures.

What ruined it for me was the heroine- Meghan.Honestly,are all sixteen-year-olds supposed to be shallow and dumb?Even though she grows a spine occasionally,Meghan has a dangerous tendency to turn into a damsel in distress- a species which I have no patience for.

Her bestie,Puck, is a character with great potential, which sadly the author left unexplored.His fun and carefree nature is addictive but the focus is more on the other guy,Ash.

Ash is the typical YA hero with incredible good looks, fighting skills and a dark past.The chemistry between Ash and Meghan is slow burning and quite well-written.

And of course,Grimalkin!(aka the talking cat).He seemed to be the only one with a head on his shoulders which is capable of sound thought process.
He is cunning,scheming,arrogant,selfish and is generally way cooler than both the heroes of the book.

The book is fast-paced,engrossing and definitely a page turner.The plot,the settings are all good but the characters are not well-rounded and remain rather bland.All in all,The Iron King is a book which keeps you interested long enough to pick up the next book in the series, but not enough to root for the characters themselves.

I have been hearing about this book for a while now, but never had I reached around to reading it. So finally I decided to put all my other books on hold and decided to give it a go ( The fact that my exams were going on and I was in a mood to procrastinate had nothing to do with it). Before plunging into the review, let me give you the basic details about the book.

Laini Taylor's writing has ruined me for everyone else. Sigh.

That said this was an almost five star for me. If I had rated the book halfway through
I would have definitely given it five stars. But after the halfway mark the story dragged a little. I understand the need for the detour, but it slowed the book down and made it lose a star.

I should probably skip reviewing her writing, because it was beautiful and perfect. Not so Shakespearean as to make us pull out our hair in frustration, but poetic enough to make one fall in love. Even though I wanted to devour this book, I forced myself to read slowly. Because I wanted to savour each sentence. see this example.

Now onto the characters. In most books I find that the only the lead characters are well fleshed out. That is not so in this case. Everyone from the Brimstone to Zuzana and even Razgut the fallen was well written. It is very easy to distinguish each one from their speech patterns. And I love Zuzana, we both agree that If there is no chocolate, then It is not breakfast.

The main characters are so unique. From Karou's Blue hair to Akiva's tiger eyes, early in the book itself we get a sense of their uniqueness, and a peek into their mind will only enhance this feeling. I will just summarize in two sentences why you should read Karou's and Akiva's story.

My friend who is a very picky reader, crushes on Akiva.
And I find Karou to be a realistic and mature heroine, not at all irritating ( thank god for that).

So read this story,
For its unique storyline,
for its lovable cast of characters 
for the writing and world building and
for the twist at the end.

P.S: I hate the blurb they have given for the book. I almost didn't read because of it. It makes the book sound very weird and alien. It is different concept but when you read it, it wont feel as weird as the blurb is making it sound.

This books has a lot of different covers, depending on the country. I didn't like the one for India, but this one is awesome. anyone knows which country it belongs to?

Super Sunday- Super Covers#9

I love kickass heroines, even more so if they have a cape or hood and some weapon in their hand. When a cover captures all these elements , what can I do but share it with you and rave about it. The Throne of Glass series is a bestselling series about a deadly game and even deadlier assassin. But this particular book is not a novel but rather a collection of the five novellas that gives us deeper insights into the mind of eighteen year old assassin Celaena Sardothien.

So, let me show you the cover now. You might have seen it already. It is a chart topper after all.

Hidden Fire by Elizabeth Hunter | A Review

Hey there, been a while since I last wrote a review hasn't it. Sorry, I was confined to the bed due to a slight accident. Nothing serious, thank god. So anyway I thought I would go on a review marathon. Because I finished quite a few books when I was on bed rest. I am not going to post ten or twelve reviews today but rather I will write and say it. At least then I will be able to post regularly. So first up is paranormal romance HIDDEN FIRE by Elizabeth Hunter. It is the first book in the Elemental mystery series. I am glad I read it because this was a refreshing change from the usual romance that is dished out.

Let me confess, my reason for choosing the book was its title. I always have loved books where the elements are used. And a few pages into the book I was shocked to realize that it was a vampire love story. At that point I debated whether to continue reading that or not since most of the books are a messy vampire love fest ( although I love Bella Forrest Shade of Vampire series). But till that point t I had thought the writing was wonderful and the fact that the story centered around a library was something that tempted me very much. So, I let go of my prejudices and decided to give it a try. Glad I did.

The romance is a slow burning one and both Gio and Beatrice are mature characters, which made their interactions all the more realistic. The situation that doesn't allow them to be together was a valid one and it was something that I often thought about when reading immortal/mortal love story.

We see how much they learn about each other as time passes, how comfortable and at ease they are in each others presence. So, if they end up together we know that their love will last. This book has more than  a 1000 five stars and a major factor for t was their touching romance.

The mystery, the one that brings Gio and B together is intriguing, and all the clues left in place made me think of a grand mystery. But, sad to say, I was dissapointed. Maybe something more will happen in the coming books (fingers crossed). I love mystery stories and with all the buildup this one would have been grand, but it let me down.

Moving on, the secondary characters were very well fleshed out- I could easily imagine their reactions. They were very strong characters who left you with impressions marked in concrete. Carwin was easily my favourite. A priest wearing loud Hawaiian shirt, it was enough to giving me a tummy cramping laugh.

The writing was top notch although some words were repetitive, but you wouldn't even notice it in the rush of reading. The loop holes were nicely tied down and I loved how the book ended. A cliffhanger ending that didn't make the book seem unfinished but at the same time exciting enough to make me want to read the next one.

So, overall I liked the book, Mostly for the slow romance and not for the mystery at core. Although it was pretty good, I expected too much I guess.

White Hot Kiss is basically a fantasy novel about Layla, who is half warden- half demon. An offspring of two enemy races. The setting is a human world which knows about existence of wardens. Who are basically Gargoyles come to life. But the majority of the human population is unaware of the existence of demons and their home , the Hell.

It is in this world that Layla,17 lives. She is school student by day, but as soon as school time is over she becomes a tagger. Due to her unique genetics, if she touches a demon, they will instantly light up. But it is only visible to the Warden eyes. Her ability makes it easier for the wardens to eliminate demons.

Layla, who for ever had a crush on her childhood best friend cum awesome warden, Zayne, experiences much emotional conflict when the handsome demon Roth enters the picture.
The world is in danger and Layla maybe the only one who can save it from the apocalypse. But she is oppressed from the all the sides, lies told my Abbot, Elijah's hatred  for her, and her own inability to decipher her true feelings.

The primary characters were well developed, especially Zayne. Roth is the fun one while Zayne is the serious one( though not the brooding one). But I liked how the author had emotional depth to Roth's character by giving him his own insecurities which he accidentally reveals to Layla. The secondary characters are very much of Flush and Blood. I liked how the author used the quirks of the secondary characters to help Layla save the world and help her recognize her true feelings.

The book is well researched and the stories are tied together in a manner that keeps at the fast pace without being an info dump. The reason for the Apocalypse surprised me, I did not see that coming.
For trilogies, usually authors drag out the stories, but this is one book that complaint won't touch.

Although, I have to say the reason for keeping the existence of demons didn't quite convince me. I needed a stronger reason. Also, the make out scene between Roth and Layla was, I believe, quite ill-timed ( you have a world to save remember, don't get distracted now) but that scene showed how Roth was actually much more decent than the supposed Guardians of Faith, the Wardens.

Another underlying  theme that runs in the book is that there is no clear distinction between good and bad. Everything is not always black and white. Everyone has grey areas.

All in whole, the book was pretty awesome and it wraps up nicely. Even though it has a cliffhanger, it doesn't give that ' oh, it's not complete ' feeling some other book give. and I would recommend this to readers of urban fantasy as well as paranormal romance.

My favourite feature is back. Super Sunday! Where we find out the the super covers of the books that made as go Wow and also made us give the book more than a passing glance. The book featured this time is an  fantasy novel (with a lot of sword fighting probably) by Amanda Hocking. Ever since I saw this cover in her blog I wanted to feature it here. Thinking back , I believe this was my inspiration to start Super Sunday in the first place. But, since this lovely book hadn't been released them, I couldn't feature it here. Almost similar aren't they. I am gonna read it as soon as the rest of the trilogy is out. Oh, by the way the other two books also have amazing covers. 

I love the interplay of colours used. It's subtle but eye catching, isn't it. I also love the border used, reminds me of the ornate gates of a castle. they seem to perfectly set the tone to the story. Kudos to the designers

Review of Burn For Me (Hidden Legacy) by Ilona Andrews

I am big fan of  Ilona Andrews, her Kate Daniels and Edge series were phenomenal  and when I heard that she was releasing a new work. I just had to read it. “Burn for Me”  is the first in the series and it was one fabulous beginning. I maybe partial to her work, but I am  fan, What can I do. “Burn for Me” is an  urban fantasy and the Romance is  slow burning, toe curling and sizzling hot.

 First of all the fact that the one we usually peg as the villain was the hero was a surprise for me, a good one too. Nevada and Connor are on the two extremes of the spectrum. The chemistry between them is like burning embers, a small whisper of wind can produce everburning flames.

A major fact I admire in Ilona’s work is the fact that there is always a  story, which moves independent to the romance. So, even if you remove the romance and write it as a murder mystery , it can stand on it’s own.

One problem I had with the story were the description. But that is personal, since, I am not a fan of descriptions or much detail

The story progresses quite smoothly and I loved the twist at the end. That was unexpected. So how much would I rate this story.....

I recommend  this book not because I am a fan but because it’s a pretty good one. Being a Fan means you will expect a higher standard of quality from the author’s work and this author delivers. I am eagerly waiting for it’s second part.

Review of Cursed by Jennifer.L.Armentrout

Jennifer is one among among my favourite authors.I loved her Obsidian series. When I heard she had written this standalone work 'Cursed' I don't think I even read the back cover before buying. I have trust in her abilities.

Cursed was a good book. But I expected more from her,justified because of how amazing her Obsididan and Covenenant series were. This book just didn't do it for me. The story revolved around the not-so-unique concept of 'touch of death'. Though she did put some uniqueness into it.

Ember is a very strong heroine and I adore her little sister. Whose character was very realistic. The antagonist could be guessed and his backstory though very good,lacked punch.His story didn't justify what he was doing.The author did a bad job on that. I was sad because I knew she could do better than this.
I didn't fall in love with the hero. He was a little confusing at times. I get the whole brooding image of the hero. I guess it is a matter of preference. I don't like that much brooding heroes.

The romance between the leads which were steamy at times lost pace at many instances. So, at the end when they were together I didn't feel that exultant.

Overall, the book is a good read. But since I am huge fan of her and have read many of her better works. This didn't do it for me. Though if it's the first you have heard of her. You could read this. You'll enjoy it. Then you could move on to covenant and then the Luxen series (personaly. I liked the Luxen series better).

Review of Archangel's Shadow (Book 7 of Guild Hunter Series) by Nalini Singh

Hey, How are you.Had a happy day ? Since for me happy days consist of those where I can read a book uninterrupted. Mine was a particularly good one. I finished Jennifer.L.Armentrout's stand alone novel "Cursed". But that's not what I am going to review today.

As you guessed from the title I'm going to review the Book No.7 in the fantastic Guild Hunter Series by the even more fantastic author Nalini Singh.

This time the story was the much awaited one of Ashwini and Janvier.Those two have been dancing round the edge of the blade for a few years now. I was eagerly waiting for them to get their own book especially after it was mentioned in the previous Elena-Raphael book Archangel's Legion it was I think , that the charming Cajun vampire Janvier was playing the sexy nurse to the injured Ashwini.

Now you know how much expectations I had from this book. But it was a let-down for me. I mean the story was great , the writing beautifull, only problem was that it sounded as if Janvier and Ashwini were the secondary characters whose lives were again in the sidelines . I was more interseted in Naasir, Elena and Raphael than the main leads. Also it was a big let down in terms of romance. I was expecting more emotions, more witty banter between them.Sigh.

This work would have been great if it was just a novel which gave us glimpses into the life of the main characters while we waited for the real seventh book from this series. Then I would have given this five stars. The book wasn't bad, it was good but it felt off. Since, I was more curious about Naasir than our main leads(are you really a tiger naasir?).

I am not a fan of this book but I am not giving up on this series because I know Nalini can deliver better than this.

So,I guess I will give my rating now
