Super Sunday- Super Covers#12

Hey, I am back with another Super Cover day.  It was so hard to choose a cover this time. But at the end, the one cover whose details lay in its subtlety caught my eyes. Simple, Elegant and Eye catching. The cover of Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley is simply beautiful and hence will be featured this Sunday.

Name: Magonia

Author: Maria Dahvana Headley

Genre: Fantasy, Myth and Legends

Pages: 320

Buy from: Amazon

Now let us see what the book is about;

Maria Dahvana Headley's soaring YA debut is a fiercely intelligent, multilayered fantasy where Neil Gaiman's Stardust meets John Green's The Fault in Our Stars in a story about a girl caught between two worlds . . . two races . . . and two destinies.
Aza Ray Boyle is drowning in thin air. Since she was a baby, Aza has suffered from a mysterious lung disease that makes it ever harder for her to breathe, to speak—to live. So when Aza catches a glimpse of a ship in the sky, her family chalks it up to a cruel side effect of her medication. But Aza doesn't think this is a hallucination. She can hear someone on the ship calling her name.
Only her best friend, Jason, listens. Jason, who's always been there. Jason, for whom she might have more-than-friendly feelings. But before Aza can consider that thrilling idea, something goes terribly wrong. Aza is lost to our world—and found, by another. Magonia.
Above the clouds, in a land of trading ships, Aza is not the weak and dying thing she was. In Magonia, she can breathe for the first time. Better, she has immense power—but as she navigates her new life, she discovers that war between Magonia and Earth is coming. In Aza's hands lies fate of the whole of humanity—including the boy who loves her. Where do her loyalties lie?

What do think about the cover. Is it eye catching? Which is your favourite cover.

Let me know, so that I can feature them here.

Super Sunday- Super Covers#11

This cover stopped me in my tracks and made me notice. Something about the cover,  the elegant font, the rose petals, the woman not in a gown made this memorable enough for me to remember this book after so much time.

The book is Impervious by Laura Kirwan, the first in the City of Eldrich series.

Name: Impervious
Author: Laura Kirwan
Genre: Fantasy romance, urban fantasy
Pages:355
Buy from: Amazon

Here is what the story is about,

“Why couldn't she get me?”
“Magic doesn't work on you. You're impervious . . .”

Meaghan Keele faces menopause with no husband, no kids, and a job she hates. At her brother's request, Meaghan moves from Arizona to Pennsylvania to help care for their dying father, taking over his job as lawyer for the tiny town of Eldrich.

What Meaghan doesn't know is that law was merely her father's day job. Gateways to magical worlds riddle the forests surrounding Eldrich. Unaffected by magic—impervious—her father spent decades mediating magical disputes and guarding the human world. Without his imposing presence, old enemies are stirring.

Impervious, like her father, Meaghan soon senses that everyone around her is keeping secrets. A shocking confrontation on her first day of work quickly clues her in to her new reality. Her office manager and her secretary are witches. Jamie, her handsome young assistant, isn't exactly human. Eldrich City Hall is haunted. And Meaghan is expected to take over both of her father's jobs.

Struggling to accept her destiny, Meaghan is soon drawn into a brutal struggle in another world and a growing attaction to John Smith—exiled king, town drunk, and Jamie's estranged father.
And she thought life in Eldrich would be dull . . .

This cover is in direct contrast to the last one i posted. Which featured a teenage heroine, with hair of gold( it is part of who she is, can you guess?)and wearing a stunning, shimmering gown. Find out here.

While this cover features a woman and not a girl, with short hair and sensible work clothes. But more than that, it was attention paid to the detail tht made me fall in love. The elegant curves and angles of the font, the carelessly flying rose petals and mysterious forest towards which, she is walking to.
What do you think about the cover? are there any covers you want to see featured here, let me know below.
P.s: This is her second books cover, which is also pretty good.

I love the play of lights here, it gives you a very ethereal feel, doesn't t?

Super Sunday#8

My favourite feature is back. Super Sunday! Where we find out the the super covers of the books that made as go Wow and also made us give the book more than a passing glance. The book featured this time is an  fantasy novel (with a lot of sword fighting probably) by Amanda Hocking. Ever since I saw this cover in her blog I wanted to feature it here. Thinking back , I believe this was my inspiration to start Super Sunday in the first place. But, since this lovely book hadn't been released them, I couldn't feature it here. And when it had finally released I didn't know about it. but past is past. Now. let us welcome this newest member of the Super family.

I love the colour palette used here. But, enough about the cover. Let's hear about the book now.

Hidden deep in the heart of a snow-covered wilderness lies the secret kingdom of the Kanin—a magical realm as beautiful as it is treacherous…
Bryn Aven has never fit into Kanin society. Her blond hair and blue eyes set her apart as an outsider—a half-blood unable to hold a respectable rank. But she’s determined to prove herself as a loyal protector of the kingdom she loves. Her dream is to become a member of the King’s elite guard, and she’s not going to let anything stand in her way…not even her growing feelings for her boss, Ridley Dresden. A relationship between them is strictly forbidden, but Bryn can’t fight her attraction to him. And she’s beginning to think he feels it too.
Meanwhile, there’s an attack on the kingdom—one that will test Bryn’s strength like never before. Finally, she has the chance to confront Konstantin Black, the traitor who tried to kill her father years ago. It’s up to Bryn to put a stop to him before he strikes again. But is she willing to risk everything to protect a kingdom that doesn’t accept her for who she really is? And when her mission brings her closer to Ridley, will she be able to deny her heart?

And see this beautiful cover of the kindle version.

Almost similar aren't they. I am gonna read it as soon as the rest of the trilogy is out. Oh, by the way the other two books also have amazing covers.

I love the interplay of colours used. It's subtle but eye catching, isn't it. I also love the border used, reminds me of the ornate gates of a castle. they seem to perfectly set the tone to the story. Kudos to the designers

Super Sunday#7

Hey , back with a super sunday. The cover I have selected is a little bit different but beautiful nevertheless.

Title : The Bone Clocks
Author : David Mitchell
Genre : Science Fiction
pages : 608
Buy from : Amazon.com
                Amazon.in

(#The above one is an amazon affiliate link)

The cover seems interesting, right. Let's see what the book is about.

One drowsy summer's day in 1984, teenage runaway Holly Sykes encounters a strange woman who offers a small kindness in exchange for 'asylum'. Decades will pass before Holly understands exactly what sort of asylum the woman was seeking . The Bone Clocks follows the twists and turns of Holly's life from a scarred adolescence in Gravesend to old age on Ireland's Atlantic coast as Europe's oil supply dries up a life not so far out of the ordinary, yet punctuated by flashes of precognition, visits from people who emerge from thin air and brief lapses in the laws of reality. For Holly Sykes - daughter, sister, mother, guardian - is also an unwitting player in a murderous feud played out in the shadows and margins of our world and may prove to be its decisive weapon. Metaphysical thriller, meditation on mortality and chronicle of our self devouring times, this kaleidoscopic novel crackles with the invention and wit that have made David Mitchell one of the most celebrated writers of his generation. Here is fiction at its most spellbinding and memorable best.

or if you want a longer version

Following a terrible fight with her mother over her boyfriend, fifteen-year-old Holly Sykes slams the door on her family and her old life. But Holly is no typical teenage runaway: A sensitive child once contacted by voices she knew only as “the radio people,” Holly is a lightning rod for psychic phenomena. Now, as she wanders deeper into the English countryside, visions and coincidences reorder her reality until they assume the aura of a nightmare brought to life.

For Holly has caught the attention of a cabal of dangerous mystics—and their enemies. But her lost weekend is merely the prelude to a shocking disappearance that leaves her family irrevocably scarred. This unsolved mystery will echo through every decade of Holly’s life, affecting all the people Holly loves—even the ones who are not yet born.

A Cambridge scholarship boy grooming himself for wealth and influence, a conflicted father who feels alive only while reporting on the war in Iraq, a middle-aged writer mourning his exile from the bestseller list—all have a part to play in this surreal, invisible war on the margins of our world. From the medieval Swiss Alps to the nineteenth-century Australian bush, from a hotel in Shanghai to a Manhattan townhouse in the near future, their stories come together in moments of everyday grace and extraordinary wonder.

Rich with character and realms of possibility, The Bone Clocks is a kaleidoscopic novel that begs to be taken apart and put back together by a writer The Washington Post calls “the novelist who’s been showing us the future of fiction.”

An elegant conjurer of interconnected tales, a genre-bending daredevil, and a master prose stylist, David Mitchell has become one of the leading literary voices of his generation. His hypnotic new novel, The Bone Clocks, crackles with invention and wit and sheer storytelling pleasure—it is fiction at its most spellbinding.

The cover was a fresh change from the usual ones that we see. Have you also seen any such cover. Do tell. me and the rest of the readers would love to know about it.

Now About the book

Happy endings are not for everyone, but when a relationship goes sour it does not necessarily mean that it has ended. Ravinder Singh tells us the tale of his love story where he loved and lost, but found something else in exchange. Based on a real-life story, the book is the author's debut novel that bares his love life for all to see.
The book begins with a reunion and takes us on the tumultuous journey of finding love in the 21st century. It entails the questioning of the truth in a love marriage where both parties have not even met each other. Tested by the hassles of the modern world we live in, I Too Had A Love Story, makes us want to know more about the fate of the lovebirds in the novel. Humorous and romantic, this book is for the curious who wonder how relationships are successful in this fast-paced century.
Love, a language that the whole world can understand, is portrayed beautifully in the context of the modern world without getting too sentimental or stoic.

Super Sunday - Super Sunday #2

Hey guys, time for another super sunday cover.Since last time I had taken a Trilogy last time and this time also it's another trilogy.  It's the Shiva Trilogy especially the first book "Immortals Of Meluha". This book is a very imaginative reinterpretation of Indian Myth, of the legendary Immortal God Shiva whose exploits are evergreen.

The Immortals of Meluha (Shiva Trilogy) is the first chapter of the Shiva Trilogy that showcases the making of Lord Shiva through a fictional medium. The narrative unfolds in the immemorial land of Meluha, where reigns the Suryavanshi clan, a highly civilized society of rules, regulations and guidelines. Abiding by their just means of lifestyle, there is persistent fear of terrorist attacks from the Chandravanshis, a clan-less civilization allied with the heinous Nagas. Together, they conspire to steal the secret formula of the Suryavanshi holy drink, Somrasa. With this paranoia, there are whispers of a prophecy pertaining to a blue-throated man from the lands of Sapt-Sindhu who would rescue the Suryavanshis from their turmoil. Enter Shiva, a tribal patriarch from the mountains of Kailasa, who travels from his home territory to Meluha in search of safety and shelter. The mystery of his throat turning blue after consuming Somrasa, begs the Meluhan people to ask a question of cosmic proportions, Is he the prophesied one? The story redefines the nomenclatures of iniquity and integrity precedented by legendary characters, folktales and Puranas mingling cohesively into an integrated pattern. The story written by critically acclaimed author, Amish Tripathi truly captures the spirit of these archaic ages in their true color.

The other books in this trilogy are

Conclusion to the New York Times Best selling Matched Trilogy!

Cassia’s journey began with an error, a momentary glitch in the otherwise perfect façade of the Society. After crossing canyons to break free, she waits, silk and paper smuggled against her skin, ready for the final chapter.

The wait is over.

One young woman has raged against those who threaten to keep away what matters most—family, love, choice. Her quiet revolution is about to explode into full-scale rebellion. With exquisite prose, the emotionally gripping conclusion to the international–best selling Matched trilogy returns Cassia, Ky,and Xander to the Society to save the one thing they have been denied for so long, the power to choose.
